Development, Characterisation, and Performance Evaluation of Some Indigenous Plants for Faecal Sludge Treatment in Ghana

The search for alternative solutions sustainable management of faecal sludge in the area dewatering with biocoagulants/bioflocculants remains unfulfilled. Some available and accessible indigenous plants northern part Ghana have been characterised subsequently evaluated their suitability use as biocoagulant/bioflocculants. Yila (Crossopteryx febrifuga) Voulo (Grewia mollis) were used this study. Three applications from wooden stem, bark, at different treatment concentrations monitored. stem gave a potential pollutant removal up to about 83.99%, 93.79%, 91.54% Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Total Suspended Solids (TSS), turbidity, respectively. Application bark respective efficiency 77.39%, 82.02%, 54.60% COD, TSS, turbidity. plant obtained turbidity was 80.43%, 86.83%, 72.55%, No cyanogenic or toxic compounds identified raw materials study has revealed producing biocoagulants that can perform effectively synthetic/chemical coagulants using locally natural but it large scale will only be applicable batch semi-batch systems. interesting constituents under consideration, such trialkyl bismuthine furan derivative, open opportunities elucidate these areas pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, glass ceramics, rubber production, other medicinal advantageous areas.
